QJ 1st Birthday vs 2nd Birthday

Hi all,

Last year has been a busy year for me. With QJ growing up and coping between my personal life, career and dream made my life packed. Juggling between career, dreams, interest and baby equals to hectic yet interesting life. Life has never been easy and full of learning curve, at that moment I'm learning to be a good wife then a preggy and now a mother.

I've always wanted to post up his 1st birthday celebrations which I've drafted last year's January so that it will be recorded but due to my packed schedule I've never made it till today. We've celebrated QJ 1st birthday last year and in a blink his 2nd birthday passed too. Both his 1st and 2nd birthday are quite successful at least in a way which satisfy me.

For his 1st birthday I've made him a two tier birthday cake, cupcakes, elephant and elephant sugar cookies all according to the blue-greyish elephant theme. While this year we held a Pororo theme birthday for him. I've bake him a Pororo & friends cake. It's easier for me this year as I just bake his cake and the rest of the cupcakes and dessert were bought. I guessed he enjoyed both his birthdays very much as he got to ate sweet things, play with his peers and received many gifts. However we did not manage to take as many photos as compared to last year as he cannot stand still and always on the move now.

Sweet Potato and Apple Puree

Hi all,

Lately I've been making food puree for my son QJ. He has started solid since he was 6 months old. Previously I bought him cereal from the departmental store but later I found out that it is very sweet and have decided to make him puree from raw food. So far, I've been feeding him apple, avocado, pumpkin, millet, sweet potato. He has a sweet tooth and he never like water and I have to force him or spoon feed him water. So the first thing that I tried out is with an apple which I cut into quarters and then cut into smaller bits to steam. Then I blend until it turns to liquid form (but not too watery) as though the baby food jars that you can find from the stores. I serve 2/4 when it is still warm (straight after blending) and he could finish it within a minute. He's very demanding on his meal and he wants it fast and he'll be screaming if I'm slow. One thing good is that this reduces the waiting time and the possibility of catching wind from the cold food. But also because of that (maybe) he is a bit huge compare to other babies of his age.

Lately I've been feeding him sweet potato (purple) and apple. I choose the organic vegetables so that is easier to digest as it doesn't contains pesticides and for apples, I've chosen the small sweet honey apple from the fruits stalls near my house. Previously I've tried to steam both apples and sweet potato in the same wok longer than the usual time because sweet potato need more time to get soft. I find it faster if I boil it in a saucepan. Then I combine both the apples and sweet potato in a blender and add some water until the texture is smooth and in puree form. I did not add too much water as I intend to freeze for later consumption which I gonna add milk for each serving. By the way I have tried the puree before feeding QJ, its yummy and he keep asking for more after each spoon. Both the sweet potatoes and apples tasted like the yam purees after adding in the milk and you can hardly taste the apple.  Please take note that your baby's "poo" will have a hint of pink/purple because of the sweet potato.

P/S: I have forgotten to take the photo of the sweet potato puree.
I tried both ways to steam apple - with and without skin

QJ First Emerging Tooth !!

Hi all,

Task of a new mother is fun, exciting, tough, challenging, and there're always mixed type of feelings. At about 4 months he can hold his own milk bottle and not long ago he’s started moving backwards, turn and roll and later about 6 months he begins babbling with "ba-ba", "da-da" and “nen-nen”. I wonder how he learn “nen-nen” (milk in mandarin) and it really breaks us into laughter when he kept babbling (he is just too cute!!). After spotting a small white bump on his gums when he is about 3+ months old with the chewing and drooling all over the place, I am sure he was going to get a tooth any time soon but it wasn’t. Finally yesterday when I'm cleaning his mouth after he had his milk avocado banana puree, I spotted tiny bumps emerged through his gums. All my questions were answered as he couldn't sleep well this few nights and fussy during the day. Seeing all this progress day by day really makes me smile and worth for all the hardship during pregnancy, complications delivery, stressful confinement and sleepless night. I am waiting eagerly for him to crawl forward, learning to call mummy and daddy, standing up and etc.

Till then...
